Lake District, my favourite type of summer holiday, part 1

We almost cancelled the whole trip due to the weather forecast (80-100% rain every day) but thanks to our Liverpool weekend (the plan was that Tomi and Gergő would collect us on Monday as it’s not much out of the way to Lake District), we didn’t. The second we arrived it started to rain. Heavily. In London we don’t experience this strong downpour too often (I can only recall one day) and nowadays we don’t even remember the last rainy day… I told the family not to worry about that, I am Ms Sunshine, I can handle weather. 😀 (It’s a family joke, because when I go somewhere on holiday, it’s always sunny). Well, I start to believe that I am really Ms Sunshine. The weather was perfect. 😀

The first day, we started at an approximately 5000 years old stone circle. Castlerigg Stone circle is surrounded by beautiful mountains and some sheeps. 😀

After that, we went to Keswick, a lovely little town next to Derwent water (fun fact: There are sixteen lakes in the Lake District, the largest is Windermere. Only one, Bassenthwaite Lake, is officially a lake by name, the others are meres or waters.) When you are here, it’s highly recommend to hop on a boat. With one ticket you can hop on and off and visit the beautiful sites around the water (not lake :D) easily. If you want to be splashed, chose the front seats! 😀

A place called Surprise View (how can it be a surprise with this name…) lies at the far end of the lake water. After a light walk uphill, the view of the big liquid surface is gorgeous. Bálint couldn’t enjoy it due to a stomach pain (and at first we thought he just didn’t want to walk, as it happened several times before…).

The next day, we went to Ambleside (another lovely little town) and visited another not lake, Windermere, which is the largest natural lake (mere) in both the Lake District and in England. We found a beautiful waterfall, a wish tree (coins are pressed into the bark of trees dates back hundreds of years in Britain and is believed to have originated in a superstition that the offering to nature would help to cure an illness) and some friendly cows.
